Grading
English 9 is a survey course which seeks to advance student's abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It is expected that all students participate wholeheartedly in all activities and assignments. Grading will be based on the following weighted categories:
Homework and in class assignments (30%) Formal writing and projects (30%) Tests and Quizzes (40%)
Late Policy: In accordance with New West policies and procedures, students will be given one day to make up any work from excused absences. Students with extended absences should contact the instructor in advance if possible. Please do not ask the instructor about personal absences during instructional time as these requests are to be done either in writing via email, or before or after class.
Rewrite Policy: At the instructor’s discretion, some projects, papers, and timed writes or tests may be reattempted or rewritten. When given this opportunity the following guidelines apply
All second attempts have a two week window from the time the assessment is recorded in the grade book
If the students does not comply with all designated changes as requested by the instructor, particularly in papers, a new grade will not be given.
All new attempts must be stapled to the previous attempt complete with instructor feedback. Under no circumstances will a paper rewrite be allowed without the attached first attempt.
Expectations Every student has something valuable to contribute. The goal of every student should be to improve. The goal is reflection, inclusion, and quality production through critical thinking and holding oneself and others to increasingly higher standards. Appropriate language and respect for different perspectives and ideologies is essential.

Honors English Syllabus
Grading Honors English is an advanced course; therefore, all submitted material should reflect the academic curiosity and rigor of an accelerated student who seeks to maximize their knowledge acquisition. Do not make the faulty assumption that a grade is tantamount to the learning process.
